Connection to Class: In Oil on Water, the journalists were able to provide not only writing, but also photographs to convey their stories. We wanted to explore how we could use art and images to invoke emotion and get our message across.

Mary Mattingly is a Brooklyn-based artist whose work explores issues of sustainability, climate change and displacement. Mattingly combines photography, performance, portable architecture and sculptural ecosystems into poetic visions of adaptation and survival.
DEAR CLIMATE is an ongoing creative-research project that was founded in 2012 by Una Chaudhuri, Fritz Ertl, Oliver Kellhammer and Marina Zurkow. The goal of this project is to create aesthetic instructional signage to lead viewers to a better informed, more realistic, and more affectionate relationship with our earth.
Using plant matter, layered imagery, complex sounds, and animal remains, Allison Janae Hamilton creates immersive spaces that consider the ways that the American landscape contributes to our ideas of “Americana” and social relationships to space in the face of a changing climate, particularly within the rural American south. Agnes Denes’ 1982 Wheatfield – A Confrontation, an environmental piece in which she planted a two-acre amber field of grain in the shadow of the Twin Towers, is now more relevant than ever, in the wake of climate change and the dramatic divide between the 1 percent and the rest of the planet’s population.
Edward Burtynsky is a Canadian artist renowned for his sustained investigation of the destruction of our landscape on an industrial scale. This photograph is a part of his larger collection titled “Meltdown: A Visualization of Climate Change”.
