Curriculum 

The Skills strand provides explicit and systematic instruction in phonological awareness, phonics, and fluency using decodable readers to reinforce newly learned spelling patterns. 

With Innovamat your first grader will learn all of the following: addition, subtraction, addition and subtraction strategies, count and model numbers, compare numbers, 2-digit addition and subtraction, length and time, graphs and charts, 3-D geometry, and 2-D geometry. 

The Knowledge Strand builds background knowledge and academic vocabulary through rich, engaging texts and read-alouds. 

The writing program focuses on developing foundational writing skills in tandem with reading skills.  We will utilize a two strand approach by using a skill strand and knowledge strand, both incorporating elements of writing development. 

Skills Strand includes:  Foundational Writing Skills, Systematic Phonics Integration, Decoding and Encoding, Sentence and Word-Level Activities, Grammar Focus, Early Writing Process

Knowledge Strand includes:  Knowledge and Building Vocabulary, Responding to Text, Oral Language Development, Shared Writing Experiences.

The program used is called "My World". Your child will learn rights and responsibilities of citizens, geography of the community, symbols and traditions of the U.S., life today and long ago, one nation many people, and work in the community.
