Reading Workshop

The Goal of Reading Workshop: To instill a joy of reading that will develop a lifelong reader

Students practice reading, think about books, and talk about books on a daily basis.

Mini Lesson:

5-10 minutes: explicit instruction, teaching students strategies for reading and reading comprehension.

Independent Reading:

This is the most important part of Reading Workshop. Students independently read practicing the mini lesson strategy and building on past mini lessons. As students read, the teacher confers with students on a particular skill or strategy that they need to work on. This permits teachers to differentiate instruction based on the needs of students.
