Dear Parent/Guardian
I would like to wish you all a Happy New Year and hope you have had a lovely relaxing Christmas break. The first two weeks back have whizzed by and I am delighted to welcome your child back to Primary 4. The children last term wowed me with how very hard working and positive they are towards their learning. Their fantastic positive attitude will allow them to achieve their best.
As part of our Personal and Social Development and RME, we are looking at awareness of self and others and building emotional resilience. We will be continuing with our Star of the week, which will be announced during our weekly assemblies.
This year we will have P.E with myself on a Monday and with Mr Hersee every Thursday so please ensure that your child takes their P.E kit with them to school on these days. We will also be continuing with our Healthy Heart topic and will be focusing on running and dance. Please could you also supply your child with gym shoes, a hair tie if necessary and ensure all clothing is labelled to avoid items ending up in Lost Property.
The children will also have a weekly Library visit every Friday morning. Children are also free to bring in appropriate books from home that they would like to read during class reading time. This term the children will also have Music, Drama and Art with Miss Strath on Wednesday mornings.
In Literacy the class are focusing on non-fiction and report writing. We will also continue to practice our talking and listening skills. In reading we will be focusing on developing our comprehension and questioning skills. We will also be continuing to develop our VCOP skills to help up level our work as part of Big Writing. Self and peer assessment will also be a focus this year so that the children are aware of what to do to further improve their work.
In Maths we are going to be focusing on multiplication and division and further exploring number and the strategies we have been building on. We will also be looking at sequencing time and using timelines appropriately. We will also continue to practise our mental maths and problem solving skills and we will link these to everyday situations.
In Science we will be investigating the water cycle and the changing states of water. We will be researching how the water cycle works and its changing states. We will be having lots of fun carrying out a range of messy experiments.
This term we will continue to teach the children some basic French we will be using the 1+2 language programme and this will continue throughout the year. We will also be doing some parts of our topic in French!
Our Topic this term will be looking at Natural disasters which the children seem really keen to explore. We will also be making links to our Literacy work and Maths work through report writing and measuring.
Homework will go out on a Monday and should be returned to the school by Thursday. It can then be marked ready to go out the following week. Homework will be linked to our learning in the classroom. As we are now a paperless school homework can be found on our class blog if there are any problems accessing the blog please let me know.
If you have any queries or questions, please do not hesitate to contact me through the school office.
Yours sincerely
Mrs Carrie Scobbie
