Dear Parent/ Carer
I hope you all have had a lovely restful October break I would just like to take this opportunity to welcome all of the children back and say a big thank you for a warm welcome. I cannot believe we are already 2 weeks into the second term which is always a very busy and exciting term.
As part of our Personal and Social Development and RME, we are looking at beliefs and rights, particularly Children’s rights. We will be continuing with our Star of the week, which will be announced during assemblies. These will be on a Friday this year.
The class will be having P.E. twice a week, on a Monday with Ms Linder and on a Wednesday with Mr Hersee. Please ensure that your child has appropriate P.E. kit on these days. Please could they have gym shoes, a hair bobble if necessary and ensure all clothing is labelled to avoid items ending up in lost property. The children will also have a weekly library visit on a Monday morning. Children are also encouraged to bring in appropriate books from home that they would like to read during class reading time. Miss Strath will be teaching Drama this term on a Tuesday and Art on a Wednesday.
This term in Literacy the class will be focusing on functional writing such as instructions, posters and reports. We will also be continuing to use our VCOP skills to help up level our work as part of Big Writing. We will also be working on peer and self-assessment so that the children are aware of what to do to further improve their work.
In Maths we are going to be focusing on place value, addition and subtraction. We will also be developing our knowledge of money particularly calculating items and giving change. Developing our mental maths and problem solving skills will also be our focus throughout the year as well as linking our maths work to everyday situations.
In Science we will be looking at the properties of materials.
French – We will be looking at introducing oneself.
Topic – This term we will be focusing on Advertising.
Homework will be issued on a Monday and is to be returned on a Thursday and it will link to what we are learning in class. If there are any problems with homework please just leave a note in the homework jotter and I can help your child in class. Homework will begin on Monday 4th November 2019.
I would be delighted to hear from you any time if you have any worries or are in need of any information. Please feel free to contact me through the school office.
Yours sincerely,
Ms Linder
