Sunshine room 18.8.20

We are so delighted to see you all back after our very long break. Also welcome to all our new faces.

Here are some photos of what we have been up to over the last few days.

12.11.18

This week we have started thinking about our Christmas concert and we are busy learning lots of new songs.

We are continuing to discuss the importance of having kind hands and being respectful to our friends.

Sophie said " people might cry if you're not kind to them"

Samiya said " you don't fight"

The children have been using the chrome books to find answers to their questions about autumn. We have been learning about hibernation , what it means and which animals hibernate. Some children have been noticing that the days are becoming shorter and we are going to be finding out how autumn affects our environment.

09.11.18

Another busy week. We have been learning all about the weather and Autumn . lots of mark making going on inside and out using a range of material.

02.11.2018

We hope you have had a lovely break. The children have all been mentioning the change in the weather and how much darker it is now. We also had lots of halloween fun. we have been exploring pumpkins, leaves, conkers and pine cones.

Welcome back!

Hope you all had a lovely holiday. We are very pleased to welcome back everyone who attended last year and all our new children too. They have all settled very well and we are enjoying sharing their learning journey.

We are having fun learning about size and amounts and we have been busy measuring lots of different things!

Week beginning 10th September, 2018 - Learning lots of new skills this week

This week the children have been making their own play dough. Using cups for measuring, they have been learning to count out the right number of cups of the different ingredients. As well as developing their numeracy skills, they are fine tuning their motor skills pouring, mixing and kneading! If you would like the recipe for play dough please ask and we will be happy to share it with you.

Using home (nursery) made scales, some of the children spent ages working out how many items would make them balance. They are beginning to understand that some items are heavier or lighter than others. This is an easy and fun thing to try at home.

"They are the same now!"

Most of the children have started brushing their teeth as we take part in the Childsmile Programme. The children are supervised while they use their own tooth brush to clean their teeth, we often find that children who are reluctant to do this at home really enjoy brushing alongside their friends.

Week beginning 17 September 2018

A big welcome back after your long weekend. We hope you had lots of fun at home with your families and friends.

Since being back we have been busy continuing to demonstrate our learning of measure and size through our play; building towers, models, finding different sizes in our nursery and learning new words to describe these.

We have been busy making our own pictures of the three bears from our Big story Goldilocks and the Three Bears. We drew around a child to get the size of the "big" bear.

"Mummy bear is medium" said Liam

We drew around a teddy bear to make our baby bear and used tissue to decorate it.

Joshua said "baby bear is small and daddy bear is big"

We have been using the scales to weigh out ingredients for our baking

We took turns at helping to make the cupcakes for snack, yum!

In gym this week we have been busy matching and sorting colours. We had fun running around fetching coloured cones and placing them inside the corresponding hula hoop. We also listened to colours being called out and put ourselves into the same coloured groups.

Week beginning 24 September

A busy week at nursery

Outside play

We have had so much fun playing outside at nursery this week and exploring a new climbing frame. The weather is certainly becoming more like autumn so remember to wear warm jackets and take extra clothes in case we get wet.

We love splashing in the puddles

and making our own water slides from loose parts found in the garden

We are enjoying our Big book Goldilocks and the three bears and have been busy retelling the story.

"Goldilocks is eating daddy bears porridge, it's too hot" said Grace

Sophie B said "Mummy bears porridge. Somebodies been eating my porridge."

"She's sitting on daddy's chair. It's big and hard." explained Sophie S

"Baby bears chair. It's broken. Goldilocks broke it." said Ella

We used the 'beebot' robot to move forwards and backwards along our story line

The children counted out how many spaces it would take to get to the next part of the story.

We used a pen to mark their route along the story

A big thank you to our families who came to play with us this week at nursery. Sorry we didn't get a photo of you all. We enjoyed your visit and we look forward to you coming to play again soon.

Our adventure teddies have been having so much fun visiting some of the boys and girls at home. Don't worry everbody will have the chance to have teddy come to visit.

We are enjoying our new "big story" The Gruffalo. We've been reading the book together and listening to the story on the chromebooks. We are having so much fun roleplaying the story with our masks.

We have been finding out more about how animals survive the cold winter.

This week we are going to be talking about the changes in the length of the days.

Our busy week at nursery... 10/12/18

This week we have been learning all about performing in front of an audience during our Christmas show and I think you will agree that the children did a fantastic job.

We also got the opportunity to watch some of the school children perform and worked on how to sit during a performance.

We are talking about the nativity story on the run up to Christmas exploring different books and small world play.

Reminder that next week (19th of December) is our Christmas party. Children can dress up if they wish :)

March 14.03.19

Investigating and Exploring Science!

This week we have joined the rest of the school in exploring Science! We have had a particular focus on Magnetism and Construction with the children investigating how magnets behave when connecting with a range of different materials.

We have carried out a number of interesting experiments each day, using many household ingredients that you would have in your cupboard at home! Water, Coke, Bicarb Soda, Cornflour, Vinegar, Oil, Mintoes, Steridant, Eggs and Balloons, to name just a few!

We have created a lava lamp, volcano, a balloon race, cornflour gloop, fizzing bottles. Whilst doing this we have explored the properties of the materials at various stages in the experiment. We have had descriptions from the children to express these, such as “fizzing”, “popping”, “slimey”,” soft”, “sticky” and “gloopy”!

We have had so much fun!!

Fun with Gloop
