The AP test is a national assessment that focuses on a fine amount of core material from the course. It cannot cover everything a course teaches students. Certainly, students might successfully cram for these tests - explaining part of the popularity of AP review books.

Course grades reflect a year's worth of work and accomplishments. Our courses are robust in terms of material taught, learning styles addressed and critical thinking fostered. Grades reflect performances in all of these areas. Grades also reflect work ethic as reflected in homework, projects, oral reports and class discussions. These grades are earned while students are busy fulfilling the demands of other courses, extracurricular activities and personal obligations.

It is an assessment of cumulative core information limited to a three hour window: a "5" may not be a definitive statement of a student's work during the duration of the course. Student performance may be skewed upward by intense studying of major themes. And, a disappointing result on the AP test does not negate the efforts throughout a course.
