In this class, your grade is based on EVIDENCE that you have met certain OBJECTIVES.
I call my grading system "Binary Grading"; you will see zeroes and ones in the grade book.
A score of one means that you have demonstrated EVIDENCE that you have met the OBJECTIVE.
A score of zero means that I still need EVIDENCE that you have met the OBJECTIVE.
It's easy to calculate your grade! If you meet 9 out of 10 objectives for a quarter (there will be more than 10), you will see a 90% in the grade book.
Zeros can usually be replaced with ones, so there is no reason to worry if you have a zero or two in the grade book.
All students could, and should, earn an A for each quarter!
In PowerSchool you will notice a "buffer" grade which decreases each time new grades are entered into the grade book.
This has been added to increase the accuracy of your grade with respect to your actual performance.
For example, if we only have 3 grades in the grade book, the buffer prevents each objective from being worth 33%.
Keep in mind that this buffer grade also gives an approximate number of objectives that remain for the quarter and is eventually removed completely.
The following is an example of what my grade book actually looks like:
THINGS TO CONSIDER:
1) Keep in mind that there is a difference between needing more time to learn something and procrastination.
2) I start entering grades for the NEXT quarter about two weeks before the current quarter ends to give you a little more time if needed.
3) Credit CANNOT be given for objectives completed after the AP Exam in May.
4) The Create PT is 30% of the AP Computer Science Principles Exam and will be a FIRM DEADLINE. It will not be possible to replace zeros with ones in the grade book for the Video, Program Code, and Written Responses (one point each) after the deadline set by the College Board. NOTE: I will be entering these grades into the grade book 7 days in advance of the actual deadline.
5) NEW (2023 - 2024): On the LAST day of each quarter, your quarter grade is FINAL. In other words, I will NOT be submitting Grade Change Forms to the administration this year.
