Options FAQ

How many options will I study?

You will study 3 optional subjects. However, if you are in a Bay or support class you may study fewer to allow for additional support lessons.

How many lessons per fortnight will I have?

You will have 4 lessons per fortnight of each optional subject.  Compulsory subjects differ - information about this can be found on the Compulsory Subjects page.

Why do I have to pick a reserve?

Some optional subjects may not be very popular and therefore not able to run.  If this is the case you will be contacted as soon as possible and your reserve may need to be chosen.

What is the deadline for picking my options?

The deadline is 12pm on Friday 24th March 2023.

How do I pick my options?

The Options Form is linked here.

Why are we picking options in Year 8?

We have decided as a school to start options in Year 9 to give pupils more time to complete their KS4 subjects.  Year 9 will focus on building the foundation skills in each subject.

What happens if a subject I picked doesn't run?

Sometimes subjects won't be able to run because there have not been enough pupils opting to study it. If this is the case you will be contacted and alternative options discussed, including your reserve.

How many pupils need to choose a subject for it to run?

This is different depending on the type of subject and all cases are dealt with individually. Some vocational subjects will have smaller class sizes as they are a more practical subject.
