Orange Avenue Media Center

Vision and Mission:  The vision and mission of the Orange Avenue Library Media Center is to provide students with the best and most updated resources available.  This includes print and digital resources as well as instruction from a certified Library Media Specialist.

Throughout this site, you will find a myriad of information about our program as well as resources for reading and research. Our program has two goals: to teach students to become competent seekers and users of information and to instill a lifelong love of books and reading. These goals are met through our Library Media Curriculum as well as the resources available in the library.

One area of focus is literature appreciation, finding materials in the library and learning to choose appropriate books. The other area of focus is on technology and research skills. Students actively participate in all aspects of the research process. Students learn skills such as creating research questions, identifying, locating and evaluating sources, and notetaking strategies. There is also a technology skills strand within the curriculum.  Students learn basic skills like using a mouse, typing on a keyboard and navigating a digital text.  They also actively engage with technology to create content and share information.  The curriculum also reflects both AASL National School Library Standards for Learners (learning standards for Information Literacy) and ISTE (International Society of Technology Educators) technology standards.

The OAS Media Center contains a print collection of approximately 14,000 volumes. The collection includes fiction, nonfiction, audio books and magazines. There are also video and professional resource collections available for use by teachers. The collection includes a wide range of genre as well as reading levels. There is also a special collection of books, both fiction and nonfiction, that are especially for emergent and beginning readers.

This website is the OAS Media Center's virtual library.  It contains a collection of resources for student use including subscription databases, research tools and curriculum related websites. There are also lists of recommended books, author information and suggested questions and activities for books. All of the resources included in the site are chosen to support the curriculum at all grade levels as well as student project needs and personal interests. The purpose of this site is to provide an online presence for the Orange Avenue Media Center.
