Yes! There are many benefits to a calming corner. Some benefits include:
Taking time to identify and recognize feelings
Provides a "safe" and comfortable space when experiencing big feelings
A physical place to use coping skills and strategies (emphasis on "when we are in the calming corner, we use our strategies")
Practice mindful skills
Increased communication skills regarding emotional needs
A calming corner can be created anywhere! For some tips, you might want to include:
Designated space typically in a quiet room
Comfy rug or mat
Fun chairs or other plush items for sitting down (ie. floor cushions, blankets, etc.)
Child' favorite booksÂ
Comfort items i.e stuffed animals, blankets
Fidgets
