2017 Competitions

Art Competition

This year, children can enter an Art competition to win prizes!

ACTIVITY:

Children listen to and respond to the piece of music - In the Hall of the Mountain King by Edward Grieg.

Click on the link for recording: 360 Interactive In the Hall of the Mountain King

This recording is a wonderful opportunity for the children to get inside the orchestra and choose instruments of the orchestra they want to view themselves. They can use either a computer, chrome book or iPad and click on the arrows on the left of the screen to interact with the orchestra , changing the position of the camera as they watch the recording.

Once the children have completed this activity, they need to share ideas about what they think is happening in the piece of music. The aim is for children to be as creative as possible, using the music as stimulus to come up with their OWN idea about what is happening.

Please note, this piece is used in many movies - most recently Trolls, so we want to explain that first. The idea is NOT for the children to draw on images or ideas they already know - but to think like a film maker - "If I was to write a film or story for this piece of music what would it be about?"

They then need to create a picture - using crayons, pastels, colouring pencils etc in response to the music. Setting the scene.

On completion, please take a digital photo of the art work and email it to eugenie.middleton@milford.school.nz.

There will be 4 prizes in total:

Year 1 and 2

Year 3 and 4

Year 5 and 6

Year 7 and 8

The competition winners will be notified and given their prizes during the live concert.

THE CLOSING DATE FOR ENTRIES IS THE LAST FRIDAY OF TERM 3. Please e mail photos of entries to : eugenie.middleton@milford.school.nz
