Director of ILLS - International Laboratory on Learning Systems
Associate Academic Member Mila - Quebec AI Institute
CNRS | CentraleSupélec | Paris-Saclay university
I am a Full Professor at CentraleSupélec | Paris-Saclay University, Director of the International Laboratory on Learning Systems (ILLS) and affiliate with the National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS). I am also a Associate Academic Member at Mila - Quebec AI Institute and Associate Professor at ETS Montreal.
My research lies at the intersection of security, privacy, and machine learning, and the broader applications to various domains such as healthcare, security and automation. I am especially interested in collaborative agents—AI systems designed to interact, negotiate, and cooperate with both humans and other machines to achieve shared goals. My work aims to develop rigorous, information-theoretic techniques for building safe, trustworthy, and robust multi-agent AI systems, thereby fostering confidence in their behavior and enabling their reliable deployment in societal contexts.
Previously, my research had a broader interest in Information Theory—the mathematical framework for understanding and quantifying information and its applications to numerous areas of applied mathematics and science such as fundamental limits of distributed compression, statistical decision theory, universal source coding, cooperation, feedback, index coding, and security of communication channels.
I served as Program General Chair of the 2019 IEEE International Symposium on Information Theory (ISIT), and Area Chair and Senior Area Chair in several conferences such AAAI, ISIT, ITW, CCS, USENIX, NeurIPS, among others, and as Associate Editor for the IEEE Trans. on Information Forensics and Security.
I earned my Ph.D. in Physics from Université Paris-Sud (France) in 2007. Upon graduating, I joined the Department of Telecommunications at Supélec and in 2015 the Laboratoire des Signaux et Systèmes (L2S) within Paris-Saclay University. From 2018 to 2019, I was visiting professor at University of Montreal (Canada) and ÉTS Montreal and from 2019 to 2020, I was visiting researcher at Laboratoire de Mathématiques d’Orsay (France). Previusly, I was visiting professor at University of Chile (Chile), University of Buenos Aires (Argentina), TU Wien - Technische Universität Wien (Austria), Technion (Israel), EPFL - École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (Switzerland).
