For the next few weeks, we will be studying some of the miracles of Jesus. Your child will learn stories about Jesus calming a storm, walking on water, feeding 5,000 people, healing the ill and disabled, and raising a boy from the dead. Through these miracles, God showed Jesus’ power. Jesus’ miracles prove that God is real, and that He has the power to change lives.
This same power can work in the lives of the people in your family. Because of sin, we experience tragedy, pain, and hopelessness. We sometimes doubt that God can help us overcome our problems. But God is powerful, and He loves us. He showed His great love by sending His Son to be our Savior. Through Him, we can be sure that whatever befalls us, He will be with us now and forever.

We have been reading a couple books about some natural disasters. The first book we read, Disaster Alert, gives an overview of many different natural disasters. We will also be reading a book just about earthquake. This will lead in to our last big writing assignment. The students will create a report on a natural disaster in a group and then they will make a video like a meteorologist telling about their natural disaster.
We are finishing up our research for our president reports and we will begin writing these reports soon.
We are learning about adding and subtracting with regrouping (you may remember it as carrying and borrowing). For carrying, we have been using the phrase: "Carry the tens up to the top, write down the ones below". We will also use a poem to help us remember the steps for subtraction: More on the top, no need to stop. More on the floor, take ten from nextdoor. Number's the same, zero's the game.
We are learning about ancient Greece. Once we are done with this unit we will learn about immigration.
Now we are learning about changes in matter. We have talked about physical changes (changes that can be undone) and the difference between solutions and mixtures. Next we will learn about chemical changes (changes that cannot be undone).
You can see a document below with the topics we learned about in this unit.
