Dr. Dua completed her research work at the Dr. Bhim Rao University, Agra. She did an analytical study on the socio-economic and political conditions of Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak that determined his philosophy of life and shaped his educational philosophy in the later years. The study also focused on the relevance of Tilak’s educational philosophy in the current educational system. Since not much work has been done on the educational philosophy of Bal Gangadhar Tilak, it is believed that this research is valuable since it throws light on personality and principles of Bal Gangadhar Tilak. His educational ideas shaped the philosophies of modern Indian educators and thinkers like Gandhi. The results of the thesis highlight the fact that Bal Gangadhar Tilak’s philosophy of education focuses on the inculcation of patriotic, moral and spiritual values, national and social integration, vocational efficiency, education for salvation, development of physical abilities etc which are considered significant components of today’s educational curriculum framework too.

A lively interaction took place between the resource person faculty and students which paved way for further clarification of the concept of educational philosophy propounded by the great Indian philosophy.

Dr. Adit Gupta in his the presidential remarks, congratulated Dr. Dua on conducting such an elaborate research work on the educational philosophy of Bal Gangadhar Tilak. He also highlighted the fact that this is a rare historical research, which is qualitative in nature. The trend these days is to follow a mixed method research model comprising of both qualitative and quantitative research conducted using surveys, interviews and observation. Our emphasis should now shift to these areas and methodologies of research. Dr. Gupta congratulated the center for conducting the colloquium on a very pertinent topic which may be helpful in enhancing the meaningful experiences of the faculty and students through the process of philosophizing educational theory and practices.
