HLTH 1050: Holistic Health

This course is designed to help the midwife understand the basic principles of holistic health in order to give the client more

comprehensive and quality care to maintain health through the childbearing cycle. This course will introduce the students to the

fundamentals of holistic health through analyzing how diet, attitudes and lifestyle affect health. Traditional healthy lifestyles are

studied to understand the important role of carbohydrates, proteins, fats and enzymes along with the basics of vitamins and minerals

and their impact on heath and natural food sources for these nutrients. Nutritional foods such as healthy broths, breads, sprouts, and

fermented foods will be studied and practiced, while reviewing barriers and access to nutritional options. Students will develop

strategies for self- practice and counseling for wholeness of health.


SPECIFIC LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

1. Interpret the role of holistic health within midwifery care.

2. Correlate overlaps between anthropological shifts in nutrition cultivation and current holistic health impacts.

3. Describe impacts of alterations to food and their corresponding health impacts.

4. Facilitate culturally-aligned holistic health initiatives.

5. Assemble traditional tools as nutrition-enhancing techniques.

6. Determine complex support strategies that incorporate the whole -person/community

7. Examine culturally-aligned integrative care and wrap-around services.

8. Network with community to collaborative support strategies.
