Hello friends! My name is Sara Halley (she/her), and I live in PNW Oregon with my boyfriend and 4 children.
For work, I get to do what I absolutely love to do as a birth doula and childbirth educator. I am currently in my fourth term of my first year of midwifery school with Midwives College of Utah, where I am pursuing my Bachelor's of Science in Midwifery.
My own birth experiences are what led me to midwifery. My first birth, I did a lot of research and knew I wanted a natural childbirth, preferably a home birth or out of hospital birth, but because of insurance and financial reasons, ended up birthing at a hospital. My wishes and knowledge and intuition I had for my birth preferences were not respected or followed, and I was left feeling like I was completely left out of my birth experience. Fast forward 7 years later, I got to experience a beautiful water birth with an amazing birth team that followed my lead, and I was able to birth how I wanted and envisioned. This support and care is what led me to birth work.
My philosophy on birth centers around the birthing person feeling seen, heard and respected throughout their childbearing year. I believe in personal autonomy and following the birthing person's lead. All families have their own beliefs and different backgroudns and I believe in empowering each one with the knowledge to make informed decisions that suit their needs best without judgment from others. Following evidence informed practice and staying up to date with current research and recommendations is a priority as a student midwife and will continue to be a priority as I become a Certified Professional Midwife.
