Care Honesty Learning Inclusion Development
We, at Loanhead Primary School, would like to extend a warm welcome to all Parents, Carers and pupils.
Our school is a non-denominational, co-educational school for all stages from Nursery to Primary 7 serving parts of Loanhead and Straiton. Loanhead is a town in Midlothian, in the commuter belt to the south of Edinburgh, and close to Roslin, Bonnyrigg and Dalkeith. The town was built on coal and oil shale mining, and the paper industries. Straiton is an area of newer housing and a retail park, which includes large retail stores such as Ikea, Costco and Next. We currently have a roll of around 180 with 40 full time places available in the nursery.
Loanhead Primary School is one of 7 schools which feed into Lasswade High School, although some of our P7 children move on to Beeslack High School in Penicuik. We are currently in a period of consultation over the new Beeslack Community High School of which Loanhead will be a feeder primary school upon its completion in August 2026.
We aim to provide a safe, caring learning environment where children feel happy and confident. We recognise that every child is different and so we aim to provide a programme of challenging experiences which meet, as far as possible, the individual needs of each child.
We work in partnership with parents/carers and the wider community to ensure the success of our children. We believe that children deserve the best possible chances in life and that they learn best when there are strong links between home and school.
We are a friendly, caring school with high expectations for all our pupils. Our children are encouraged to explore, discover and question through a range of exciting learning opportunities both within and outside the classroom.
We hope you enjoy finding out more about our school by browsing our website. Visits are encouraged and welcomed: we would be delighted to show you around our wonderful school.
Yours sincerely,
Ms Rebecca Annand
Head Teacher
