What will I Learn?
This National Progression Award (NPA) underpins practical learning activities with knowledge and understanding of photography.
You will learn how to make effective use of Digital Photography Equipment and successfully edit your shots after photoshoots.
What skills with I develop?
As well as creative skills, you will be learning the technical skills required to use a camera in manual settings, how to analyse a photo and how to build a folio of research to help you plan your own photo shoots too.
There’s a lot more to photography than taking pictures!
What could be helpful?
You don’t need to know anything about photography, however you will need to be able to write in full sentences and you’ll be learning a new vocabulary of work which you’ll need to be ably to use in your written work.
You should also have an ability to follow instructions carefully, meet homework deadlines and be willing to work outside class time as the most creative photographs often have been taken out with the school grounds.
Is there is an Exam?
The NPA is internally assessed, according to the requirements of the SQA.
What comes next?
You have the opportunity to continue your studies into Higher Photography.
Where can this take me?
Photography is a skill which is valued by many careers, from journalism to archaeology.
So even if you don’t plan for a career in the creative industries, photography could be a valuable skill to add to your CV.
Beyond school you may wish to continue your studies.
Past students have gone on to study Photography at college and/or university, either as a stand-alone subject or as a part of their degree.
Others have become very successful in the Creative Arts Industry and Photography made up part of their application portfolio, securing their place to study at their chosen university.
What will I Learn?
Higher Photography is built around two units - Image Making and Contextual Imagery – which study the skills required for your final portfolio of work.
You will also learn some of the technical language of photography, in preparation for the written question paper.
