Michigan law requires that all students be immunized against vaccine preventable diseases to attend Northeast Middle School. When a student enters 7th grade, the immunization requirements change. Please be sure your student is up-to-date. The deadline for immunizations is November 1, 2025, but appointments with the Health Department become increasingly difficult to secure as the deadline approaches. The typical immunization update requirements for 7th graders include a booster to Tdap and the meningitis vaccine.
NOTE: Any parent/guardian who wants to claim a non medical waiver will need to receive education regarding the benefits of vaccination and the risks of disease from a county health department before obtaining the certified nonmedical waiver form through the Local Health Department. The new rule requires the use of the State of Michigan non medical waiver form dated January 1, 2017.

The front parking lot along Sugnet is reserved for school buses only between 7:30-8:00am and 2:40-3:10pm. Please do not use this lot for drop off or pickup during these times.
The best places to drop your student off during these times are either in the back of the building or in the parking area between NMS and Plymouth. Rules for dropping off in the back are:
The left lane is a moving lane. Do not stop and drop off your student while in the left lane.
The right lane is the drop-off lane. Pull over and stop and let your student out. Please DO NOT park and exit your vehicle in this lane.
Cell phones and ear buds can be used before school, after school and during lunch (in the cafeteria only). Students using a device during this time must use it in a respectful and non-disruptive manner.
Cell phones cannot be used at any time during the school day 8:05 – 2:50, including the hallway, bathrooms or locker rooms. Students cannot use their cell phone to film staff or students at any time during the school day.
Cell phones are only permitted in class if required by the teacher for specific educational purposes.
When a student is carrying their cell phone while walking to lunch – the phone cannot be visible or used until the student is in the cafeteria.
Consequences:
a. 1st Offense: Staff members can confiscate the phone/earbuds for the remainder of the hour.
b. 2nd Offense: Office referral and the phone/earbuds stay in SRC for the remainder of the day.
c. 3rd Offense: Office referral and phone/earbuds stay in the office until the parent picks up the device from school
d. 4th Offense: Student may not have a phone or earbuds at school. Length of time to be determined by administration.
e. If a student continues to bring device to school after the 4th offense – the student may be issued a suspension for open defiance.
It should be noted that refusal to surrender a cell phone or other electronic device when directed to do so by a school staff member, teacher or administrator is a violation of the Student Code of Conduct. Insubordinate behavior is punishable by exclusion from school privileges, events, and up to a suspension.
The primary responsibility for a student’s attire resides with the student and their parents or guardians. The school district is responsible for seeing that student attire does not interfere with the health or safety of any student and that student attire does not contribute to a hostile or intimidating atmosphere for any student. All staff and students should understand that they are responsible for managing their own personal “distractions” without regulating the clothing choices of others. Clothes must be worn in such a way that the entire torso is fully covered with opaque fabric
Students Must Wear:
A shirt with fabric on the front, back, and on the sides under the arms
Pants/jeans or the equivalent. For example, a skirt, sweatpants, leggings, a dress, or shorts
Footwear
Students May Wear:
Fitted pants, including opaque leggings, yoga pants and "skinny jeans"
Tank tops, including spaghetti straps; off the shoulder tops must meet criteria #1. (up to or above the clavicle)
Students Cannot Wear:
Violent images or language
Hats/Hoods (except for religious articles)
Costumes
Images depicting drugs, alcohol, profanity, pornography, or hate speech - including racist or discriminatory comments, displays, or acts (e.g. the Confederate flag, swastikas, etc.)
Images that create a hostile or intimidating environment
Tube tops
Parents will be notified of all Go-Guardian alerts outside of school hours. This will alert parents of any concerning technology behavior for their student.
As always, please encourage your students to have everything they need before leaving for school each day. If they do forget something feel free to drop it off in the office. If your student contacts you and asks you to bring an item, please let them know you will bring it and that they should check the office between classes or before lunch.
If either the asset tag from the back or the large student information tag from the front is removed or defaced a $5 fine will be issued for each label. If either label is peeling or fading, report this to the office or library so a replacement can be ordered.
