This course will provide an opportunity for students to participate in a fitness class that emphasizes personal development in a noncompetitive environment. This course will promote cardiovascular fitness, flexibility, resistance training, body toning, and athletic improvement through the development of skills and drills in fitness and sport.
The student’s primary goal is to improve overall fitness level, which can be measured through the individual and presidential fitness tests; as well, a goal will be to realize how important it is to be healthy and fit throughout life. The 10 tests are:
PULLUPS, PUSH UPS, FLEX ARM HANG, CRUNCHES, SIT & REACH, MILE, SHUTTLE,. Each student will be pre and post tested to show their growth.
Gym shoes, with non-marking soles!
Dress appropriately for physical activity.
Hats and sandals/Croc shoes are not allowed because of the risk of injury.
(optional) Mark your name on all of your belongings!
Students must provide their own lock this year.
No cell phones are allowed in class.
Be On Time: Arrive promptly and be prepared to start class.
Dress Appropriately: Wear the required gym attire. Failure to dress in proper gym clothes will result in a deduction of points.
Participate Actively: Engage fully in all activities. Non-participation will result in a deduction of points.
Respect Others: Use respectful language and behavior. Fighting, foul language, or disrespect towards others will result in a deduction of points and being sent to the office.
Follow Directions: Adhere to the rules and instructions given for each activity.
No Unauthorized Items: Cell phones, earbuds, or headphones are not permitted. Use of these items will result in a deduction of points.
Wear Appropriate Footwear: Only wear gym-appropriate footwear. Crocs, sandals, boots, or any inappropriate footwear will result in a deduction of points.
Restroom Policy: Restroom use is permitted only with your pass sheet. Ensure you fill your water bottle before class starts.
No Early Departures: Do not leave class early or skip out. Doing so will result in a deduction of points.
Students can earn up to 10 points per day in class based on their participation, changing into PE clothes, attitude, and effort. Students are responsible for managing their own grades. If a student reports on time, maintains a positive attitude about the day’s activity, and participates to their full ability while adhering to the established class rules, they will receive 10 points for the day. If they are absent or choose not to participate, they will not receive points. Deductions will be made from their daily total if a student chooses not to follow the class rules (see deductions below). At the end of the marking period, points will be totaled, and a grade will be assigned.
A: 96-100% A-: 92-95% B+: 88-91% B: 85-87% B-: 82-84%
C+: 79-81% C: 76-78% C-: 73-75% D+: 70-72% D: 67-69%
D-: 65-66% E: 64%-below
-10 points for non-participation.
-10 points for fighting, foul language, or disrespect towards others (also results in being sent to the office).
-10 points for leaving class early or skipping out.
-10 points for having a cell phone, earbuds, or headphones.
-7 points for wearing crocs, sandals, boots, or any inappropriate footwear.
-3 points for a tardy, with a phone call home starting with the 3rd tardy.
-3 points if a student forgets to bring their clothes for the day but chooses to participate.
There can be a –1 to –10-point deduction depending on the severity of the offense and the situation.
(UC) Unsportsmanlike conduct: displaying a poor attitude, using vulgar language, misusing school equipment or facilities, not dressed in gym attire, not participating in daily warm-up activities, or displaying little to no effort during activity.
