The objective of the game is to score points by shooting the basketball through the opponent's hoop. The team with the most points at the end of the game wins.
Divide the players into two teams.
Each team must have at least five players on the court during the game.
The game is played in quarters. The duration of each quarter is determined by the teacher (e.g., 8-10 minutes per quarter).
Alternatively, the game can be played in halves, with each half lasting a predetermined amount of time (e.g., 15-20 minutes per half).
The game starts with a jump ball at the center circle.
The team that gains possession of the ball first is on offense; the other team is on defense.
Dribbling: Players must dribble the ball while moving. Double dribbling (stopping a dribble and then starting again) and carrying (palming) the ball are not allowed.
Shooting: Points are scored by shooting the ball through the opponent's hoop.
A shot made from inside the three-point line is worth 2 points.
A shot made from outside the three-point line is worth 3 points.
Free throws, taken from the free-throw line, are worth 1 point each.
Passing: Players can pass the ball to teammates. Passing can be done in any direction.
Defense: Defensive players must not make physical contact with offensive players. Stealing the ball is allowed but must be done without excessive pushing or reaching.
Fouls: A foul occurs when a player makes illegal physical contact with an opponent. The fouled player gets free throws.
Out of Bounds: If the ball or a player holding the ball touches or crosses the boundary lines, it is considered out of bounds. The opposing team gains possession.
Substitutions: Substitutions can be made during stoppages in play.
The game ends after all quarters or halves have been played.
The team with the most points at the end of the game wins.
In the event of a tie, overtime periods can be played to determine the winner.
