Allison Scheffer

Midland High School seniors Lauren McGuirk, Elliana Rinn, and Allison Scheffer have won the 2021 Congressional App Challenge for Michigan's Fourth Congressional District with their app Virtual Motion Therapy. The app is designed to help patients who have been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease have access to physical therapy exercises. It utilizes virtual reality technology to simulate hand-eye coordination exercises such as motioning to pop a bubble. The students have produced a video about their app, which can be seen here.

"Congratulations to Allison, Elliana, and Lauren on creating their new app and utilizing their skills to make a positive difference in the community. Learning a coding language and putting those skills to use can help open the door to good-paying jobs not only now, but also in the future," said Congressman Moolenaar.

School safety experts say anonymous tiplines are among the most effective tools for preventing school violence, including mass shootings like the one that took four lives and injured seven last month at Oxford High School. (excerpt from an article entitled "School violence is rising. Michigan's OK2SAY tipline can help."
