The Outsiders Symbolic Tattoo Project

Students are asked to imagine that a character from The Outsiders decides to get a tattoo on his or her arm.  Based on what they know about the character, students consider what tattoo he or she might choose and for what reason.  Symbolic choices should demonstrate a deep understanding of the character or a theme that develops in the story.  Students will support symbolic tattoo with a quotation from the novel and explain their artistic choices in an Artist's Statement.
