I have been teaching mathematics at Middletown High School South since 2006, after teaching for one year at Thompson Middle School. At Thompson MS, I taught sixth grade and eighth grade math. Since arriving at South, I have been teaching various levels of Algebra and Precalculus. In 2016, I began teaching the College Board's new Advanced Placement Computer Science Principles course.
Teaching is a second career for me. When I was in college, I had originally planned on being a math teacher, but I took a computer class as an elective and loved it. So, after earning my undergraduate degree in mathematics with a minor in computer science, I began working with computers. I spent many years working in corporate technology where I did computer programming, system operations, system design and project management. After my son was born, however, I realized I did not want to continue working in the 24/7 world of corporate IT while trying to spend time with my family. As I looked back over my career, I realized that some of my favorite jobs had been when I was training people so I decided to become a math teacher. I went back to college and took the courses I needed to get my teaching certification.
In Spring of 2011, I completed a masters in Educational Technology program from New Jersey City University. This graduate program combined my two careers: technology and education. It provided me an opportunity to find innovative ways of integrating technology into my classroom. Since then, I have become a Google Certified Educator.
In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my wonderful husband and terrific son.
