The annual banquet committee is charged with the planning and organizing the membership meeting and dinner for our association. At this dinner, officers of the MTA are installed, and the Friends of Education award, along with scholarships for high school seniors, are presented to the winners. This is a fun-filled evening celebrating our MTA and its accomplishments. The Annual Dinner will include a social hour and dinner.

MTA Education Award
The education scholarship is open to any Middletown High School senior planning to major in education at college or to any MTA member’s son/daughter attending any local high school pursuing any college major. There will be two to four $1,500.00 one-time cash awards given. MTA scholarship applications are available at the MHS counseling office. This year’s deadline is March 1st. Late applications will not be accepted. Over the years, we have supported many deserving young adults and helped them to achieve their goals. MTA scholarship winners will receive their award at this year's MTA Banquet.

Friend of Education and Virginia Shaffer Award Committee
In December 1961, Mr. Joseph Woodruff, then President of the Middletown Board of Education, established an annual award for teachers in memory of his sister, Virginia W. Shaffer. Mrs. Shaffer had been a teacher in the local school system at the time of her death in 1961. The award, to be given in recognition of service to the teaching profession, is administered by the Middletown Teachers Association. Selection is by the Virginia Shaffer Committee from nominations by members. The following criteria should be considered in making your nomination:
The recipient should have at least five years of active engagement in the United Teaching Profession.
The recipient should have participated in such services as OEA and NEA activities, curriculum studies, promotion of legislation, or other activities contributing to general teacher welfare and morale.
President and officers serving MTA would not be eligible for this award for at least a year and a half after their term of office has expired.
