Grace Lin | PBS LearningMediaGrace Lin is the author and illustrator of more than 20 books — from picture books to young adult novels — for kids. Most of Grace's books are about the Asian-American experience, she believes, "Books erase bias, they make the uncommon everyday, and the mundane exotic. A book makes all cultures universal." Beauty of Jasmine | PBS LearningMediaThe performances in this collection were filmed at the Beauty of Jasmine Chinese Music and Dance Concert at the University of Kentucky's Singletary Center for the Arts in March of 2012. The program was presented by the Chinese Music, Dance, and Arts Program (CMDAP), led by director Hong Shao. CMDAP is an educational performing and visual arts program that promotes the understanding and appreciation of Chinese culture. The videos can be used for teaching and integrating a variety of content at different grade levels. Primary teachers can use the videos to provide cultural context for stories in their reading programs. Chinese language teachers can use them to teach Chinese culture and as a springboard for enlivening language instruction. Arts and humanities teachers can use them to teach the elements of music and dance as well as the humanities and purposes of the art forms.
