As a new program, we do not yet have data on many items that will be important for our continued growth and improvement if our program is approved. Based on our previous experience and the months spent compiling this Institutional Portfolio, the following are the strengths and needs we have identified at this time, as well as our plan for addressing these needs over the next seven years if our new program is approved to begin in summer 2025.
Pre-Existing Strengths at Middlebury:
Robust resources: finances, personnel, alumni network, faculty preparation, institutional support
Depth of experience in language education
Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion across the institution
Depth of curricular offerings taught in the target language at the graduate level
Capacities We Will Build if New Licensure Program Is Approved:
Infrastructure and support for coordinating the practicum hours and student teaching experience
Calibration across languages to ensure consistent outcomes
Faculty & administrators' familiarity with Vermont Core Teaching Standards
Systems to provide post-graduation mentoring and support for candidates
