Fall 2020: Middlebury College

Overview
Students from the Fall 2020 course, Culturally Relevant Pedagogy at Middlebury College, under Professor Affolter, have developed modules for students of varying ages (from elementary school to high school) to illustrate their understandings the three pillars of Culturally Relevant Pedagogy: Academic Success, Cultural Competence, and Critical Consciousness. (A concept introduced to the field of education by Dr. Gloria Ladson-Billings.) Each module is inspired by a chapter from James Loewen's text Lies My Teacher Told Me: Everything Your American History Textbook Got Wrong.
How to use the website
Under the "Modules" tab, you will find drop-down menus for six chapters themes that emerged from chapters from Lies My Teacher Told Me. Each/lesson plan includes two modules with the module name and recommended age group for each. We hope the ideas presented here are useful to anyone looking to disrupt dominant stories. Thank you.
