What a fantastic start to our final half-term of the year. We can't believe it is only six weeks till your children will be moving up to their next classes! Have a read below to find out what your children have been getting up to in the last two weeks of their learning.
In Reception, before the half-term, the children learnt all about the wonderful artwork of Vincent van Gogh. They looked at his many sunflower paintings and then were inspired to create their own beautiful versions. These are now displayed outside Reception and they look fantastic. The children were then lucky enough to plant their own sunflowers in the Reception garden. I wonder whose will grow the tallest? Continuing their outdoor learning and enrichment, the children have been creating some creepy, crawly minibeasts out of clay. Take a look at Leia, Aurora, Eden and Juno's creations.
In Year 3, the children have been working really hard with their Science. They drew and labeled diagrams of a flower. The children's knowledge was fantastic and they were able to clearly explain what the different parts were for and use some super scientific vocabulary. Well done Year 3! Take a look at Fatima and Yunice's wonderful work.
In Year 4, Miss Courtnell and Mrs Lopez were so impressed by the children's French work this week. They were busy preparing the phrases and vocabulary for the French cafe next week. Ordering food is always a good motivation to learn French, especially when they are getting crepes, pain au chocolat and croissants on French day! Take a look at Seb and Rhiannon's work this week.
We are so proud of our writers in KS1 this week! At the end of last half-term, Year 1 and 2 were writing up their final versions of their English work in their independent writing books. Year 1 designed their own monsters and then wrote instructions for how to look after them. Year 2 had been writing a sequel for a well-known fairytale. Well done Theodore, Eva, Charlotte, Scarlett and George. You are all amazing!!
Year 1 has also been doing some fantastic Maths this week. They learnt all about directional vocabulary and then were tasked with directing their partner using this language... whilst blindfolded!
Wednesday 21st May was National Numeracy Day. At Micklem, we celebrated by dressing up in Maths themed outfits. Thank you all those children and families that made such a great effort with this - we had some super costumes such as . The theme of this year's day was money. The children took part in lots of activities linked to money and also joined a live virtual maths assembly with National Numeracy Ambassador Bobby SeagullI.
In the Sunshine Room, the children developed their money skills by creating their own restaurant called 'McSunshine'. They took a trip to the shops and bought all of the ingredients, used their maths skills to calculate the different costs and then created all of the menus, money and food. Staff were then able to visit McSunshine and order different meals and drinks from the children's restaurant. Well done Sunshine Room!
Finally, Mr Frost, announced some super Times Table Rockstar winners across KS2. Take a look at the results from Numeracy Day below.

We had a fantastic end to this half term at Forest School! We made cookie dough, adding the dandelions we collected and cooked them on the fire. They were delicious!
What an amazing week Year 6 has had! Even torrential rain couldn't dampen their spirits. Year 6 have had so many experiences this week including: raft building, zip wiring, archery, crate stacking and meeting Evie Pig at Peppa Pig World! The residential is a chance for Year 6 to spend time together as a group, relax after exams and have experiences that will create memories for life - mission accomplished. We are very proud of how well they have represented our school while away and are looking forward to welcoming them back home. Sorry parents - they are your responsibility again for the weekend!
This week, children in Art Club have taken a trip to the National Art Gallery in London. They caught the train early Friday morning, with some detours to China town and the M&M shop and then took the underground to Trafalgar Square.
They were lucky enough to have their session led by the head of gallery education, and she was absolutely fantastic with our children. She told Micklem staff that the children "were amazing, their knowledge incredible for little ones and that she would love to keep in touch with our Art Club."
Well done Micklem Art Club! You are making us all so proud.

DSPL8's summer newsletter for parents/ carers is available on their website now. We've picked out a few upcoming events that particularly stood out to us, but click on the screenshot below to see everything that's going on!
The SEND Mental Health Support Team works in schools to support with mild to moderate mental health difficulties. They are an early intervention service, meaning they try to offer support as difficulties emerge. They offer 1:1 and group sessions for parents/carers and children or young people, as well as workshops delivered to children/young people, parents/carers and school staff on a range of mental health and emotional wellbeing topics.
They have put together this parent/carer questionnaire with Hertfordshire Parent Carer Involvement (HPCI) to gain feedback about mental health and emotional wellbeing support in schools. This will inform how they deliver future support to children, young people and parents/carers as well as how they support schools. Click on the picture or scan the QR code to access the survey.
