It's been a fantastic start to the half-term and your children have been learning lots in their classrooms. Have a read below to find out more.
Year 5 children are really enjoying their new Science topic for this half-term - living things and their habitats. They have learnt all about the seven life processes and used the acronym MRS GREN to remember these. Take a look at Amelia and Lewis's fantastic posters that show and explain the different processes of all living things.
In Year 4, the children have been creating lines of code in their Computing lessons. Their task was to write a line of code that would then draw different letter shapes. Penny wrote some fantastic code for the letters C and F and lots of other children worked really well in teams to create their code.
In Year 1, the children have been doing some wonderful writing about the book Little Red. They created their own settings and then wrote super similes to describe. Year 1 also roleplayed being weather forecasters this week in their Geography lesson. They were able to explain what the different symbols represented and describe the weather over the next week. We definitely have some future weather forecasters in the making!
In Year 3, the children have been working really hard on their understanding of fractions. They have been tackling some challenging questions and using their problem solving and reasoning skills to help them. Take a look at Tyler's work from this week.
Our wonderful Reception children have been working really hard this fortnight. The children explored Matisse's artwork, including The Snail, and then took inspiration to create their own. Take a look at Freddie's wonderful work. The children have also been working on their number bonds and Ellie did some super learning and found lots of number bonds to 14.
In Nursery, the children have been completing some wonderful, exploratory activities this week. They have been able to explore and develop their gardening skills by digging for vegetables, playing with the sand and also completing puzzles with magnetic vegetables. Well done Nursery - we love seeing you grow and learn!
Micklem children have taken part in two tournaments this half-term already. Last week, children from Year 5 and 6 took part in a tournament and won all five of their matches. This week, children from Year 3 and 4 had their turn. Their best win was 3-0 and Alexis in Year 4 scored a hat-trick! All children showed fantastic perseverance and teamwork. Well done to Alexis for his hat-trick and to all of our other fantastic footballers.
Year 1 and 2 have been looking at dandelions in Forest school. We found out about their health properties and even picked lots to make into edible cookies later in the term.
We also began our 'whitling' journey by practising peeling vegetables. It was lovely to see children who 'don't like' carrots having a try, and enjoying them!
Year 2 and 4 were lucky enough to visit Mountfitchet Castle on Tuesday. They were able to explore the weapons and punishment methods - some children ended up being put in stocks! There were lots of interactive activities including archery and using a catapult. They also fed animals such as deers, goats and even saw some peacocks.
This week, Breakfast Club hosted their Breakfast Club's Got Talent (the much more famous version of Britain's Got Talent)! There was no Simon Cowell, but there was the amazing Mrs Harvey, Mrs Hill and Miss Watson. The children performed some fantastic routines and showcased singing, dancing, kung fu and gymnastics. Well done to Sofia in Year 4 for 1st place, Aria and Albert for 2nd and Julia for 3rd place. Micklem children are SO talented and we are so lucky to see you all developing your passions and talents!
This year, we have introduced Class Dojo. A way of celebrating individuals and classes that are following our school rules of:
Be Kind.
Show Respect.
Aim High.
Children will be able to receive one or two points for these core values from any member of staff. We will keep an eye on which individuals, classes and house groups are being the kindest, most respectful and ambitious over the year.

Malachi - This week Malachi has worked really hard in English he created a brilliant forest illustration and then wrote similes to describe his setting independently. “The bush is a green as a journal. The siren is as black as a bag. The house is as big as a tree." Keep it up!
Rosa - For great vocabulary and enthusiasm when role playing as a weather forecaster. Keep it up Rosa!
