Identify and respond to needs based upon an understanding of situational context and logical analysis of relevant information.
In my research for this project, I had to intake a lot of information beyond the music I was studying. I had to also analyze musical reviews and sociological investigation of just how much the music impacted/reflected the time period. I had to take in lyrics with their situational context and take in just how much of an overlap there is between the arts and culture. I also had to put aside my own views on each social situation and analyze my primary sources from a mainly objective standpoint. One time when I really found my critical thinking skills growing was when I saw the overlap between the Vietnam War era and the Civil Rights Movement and how they overlapped and impacted each other.
Proactively develop oneself and one’s career through continual personal and professional learning, awareness of one’s strengths and weaknesses, navigation of career opportunities, and networking to build relationships within and without one’s organization.
Through extensive research and hours of brainstorming, revising, and reflecting on sources, I honed skills that will be important for my future career. I hope to attend law school and/or work in a government based setting, and in that career I will be doing a lot of reading compresension and making conclusions based on sources and situations as I did in this project. After this project I feel very confident in my writing skills and I hope to continue honing these skills through more research throughout college. I also forged a relationship with my instructor and learned more about collaboration with a mentor like Dr. Johnson, especially when it comes to working through feedback together and trusting her experience as a polished writer when revising my own work.
Clearly and effectively exchange information, ideas, facts, and perspectives with persons inside and outside of an organization.
This project invloved peer review, collaboration with my instructor, seminars leading up to the research, and a final presentation of our research. The class was very seminar based and being able to share ideas and perspectives on works by Greek philosophers as well as pieces of art made me very comfortable with communicating my perspectives in class and in my paper. We also did many stages of peer review and review with Dr. Johnson that were key in helping me understand my own argumaents and be able to communicate my points in the way I wanted to. Presenting in front of the class and other Miami students at the end of the class also made me more comfortable with public speaking and being able to present my ideas in a succinct way.
