Pixel Building
Australia holds many sustainable buildings but for a great comparison against the edge building, “The Pixel” building may stand up to the greenest building in the world. When it comes to rainwater harvesting, ‘The Pixel” building uses a strategy for harvesting water as well. Rainwater is used for all internal water requirements and is collected through a roof garden and reticulated to a storage tank in the basement of the building. The harvested rainwater is treated using membrane filtration technology to potable water standards. Additionally four main water taps were installed as an alternative source of drinking water (Water Services Association of Australia). Unlike Amsterdam, Australia is home to some of the driest regions in the world, while also being subject to periods of heavy rainfall and cyclones (busmantanks.com). Similar to “The Edge” the “Pixel” building is BREEAM certified. Currently “Pixel”is actively pursuing a very high rating under the system.
