The entirety of the mammalogy collection was systematized to reflect modern phylogenetic trends. Only taxa present in collection were considered in systematization; however, arrangement was designed with collection expansion in mind.
Phylogenetic sequencing of taxa focused on classifications of:
Superorder
Order
Family
Genus
For simplification, species within genera were arranged alphabetically.
Derived image of a cladogram displaying molecular relations between families of Mammalia. Springer et al. (2004).
The recent trends of mammal phylogenetics proposed by Springer et al. (2004) were followed while considering specimens present in collection relative to cabinet size.
Some cladogram relations required further explanation from other sources:
Sequence of Laurasiatheria (Zhou et al., 2011)
Placement of Perissodactyla (Murphy et al., 2001)
Sequence of Carnivora (Arnason et al., 2002)
Sequence of Canidae (Lindblad-Toh, 2005)
Placement of Ailuridae in Musteloidea (Fisher et al., 2008 & Yonezawa et al., 2007)
Sequence of Chiroptera (Lei & Dong, 2016)
Sequence of Primates (Siepel, 2009)
