Dr. Mark Krekeler - Faculty Mentor
Dr. Krekeler’s research interests involve the mineralogical and geochemical properties of natural and synthetic systems. He has advised 250+ undergraduates and 21 graduate students in research. He has 60 peer-reviewed publications total, with 58 examples of undergraduate authorship and 26 examples of graduate student authorship. While at Miami University alone, he has had 211 abstracts with 296 examples of undergraduate authorship and 154 examples of graduate student authorship. He holds U.S. patents and has 1650+ citations and an h-index = 23. He has acquired over $1.6 million in total academic funding during his career. He has mentored 101 students to earn significant awards or achievements totaling more than $410,000. Recent examples are his student, Hannah Wudke, who won a Goldwater and an Astronaut scholarship – one of only 18 students nationally in 2023. He also mentored three additional Goldwater Scholars in 2020, 2024, and 2025. He has had 11 Miami University Provost Student Academic Achievement Award (PSAAA) winners, 8 as the primary advisor and 3 as co-advisor.
