Dear Third Grade Families,

 What we have been learning:

Math:

In math, we have been learning how to tell and write time to the nearest minute. Students have been introduced to how to solve problems about elapsed time. In addition, they have been estimating and measuring liquid volumes and masses using liters and grams with real liquids and objects around our class. Students also recognize perimeter as a measurable attribute of figures and are able to distinguish between perimeter and area.

During the summer please remember to remind your children to practice their multiplication fluency facts! This will help them solve more challenging word problems with ease as they transition into 4th grade. As always, here are some possible resources for you. We recommend the app on Class Link "Reflex,"  flashcards, or Kakooma cards at Gregtang.com. If you are looking for a fun tool to help your child with multiplication, here are links to the multiplication pop it and multiplication bracelets!

Reading and Writing Workshops:

In our integrated unit on Business/Economics: Entrepreneurship, students have written and created persuasive advertisements utilizing platforms such as I-Movie, Canva, google slides so that another third grade class is able to get excited about their upcoming store this Wednesday.

Students will be writing letters to get future third graders excited and prepared for all of the fun and learning that happens in 3rd grade!

In reading we are on are final chapters of our book clubs. Students have been excited to discuss their jobs and will celebrate completing their book next week. In honor of completing our snack read aloud, Harry Potter, and completing our book clubs, we will celebrate reading by watching this PG rated movie, Harry Potter, the Sorcerers Stone with Ms. Companioni's class.

We completed our final  Wordly Wise Vocabulary test this week. Students will complete the test corrections in class next week since there is no homework next week!

Don’t forget to have your child  read over the summer. This Parents’ Corner has a list of book recommendations for your convenience.

Science:

In science, students examined clues about how clouds look and feel to discover what they’re made of and how they form. Students created a Gas Trap by adding hot water to clear cups to observe evaporation firsthand. They observe the condensation of the water vapor on the sides of the cup.

For our final STEAM project, students will be going to the Garner Center for Innovation to create Student Choice Awards. As they reflect about their year filled with learning and growth, they are going to choose a “trophy” for themselves. They will then get materials and build their own trophy.

Social Studies:

Students learned what the economic terms "goods" and "services" mean, and the concepts of "supply" and "demand," connecting their knowledge to their businesses. They have been working diligently at school and at home to build their store for the Third Grade Business Expo to present to Ms. Cirisano’s class next Wednesday. Students will be given 20 Spartan Bucks where they will learn to budget and purchase items from Ms. Cirisano’s class store. What a fun way to end our year!

If your child completes a book they can write a book report or complete an AR test. They may do this at home or at school. If done at home, writing the report counts towards their 20 minutes reading.
