The options for your student to accelerate in mathematics courses. All student 9th grade students are automatically placed in Integrated Math 1. However, all students can accelerate to Integrated Math 2 through their middle school testing and teacher recommendation. Out-of-district students will be given the opportunity to take a MDPT test out of the University of CA for acceleration on two Saturdays at the end of the school year before their entry into ASHS 9th grade class. At the end of IM3, students can once again take a MDPT test to accelerate from IM3 into Calculus.
All students can accelerate at the beginning of each year by taking courses at accredited institutions such as BYU, De Anza, Gavilan, and Evergreen. All courses must be approved by our mathematics department chair prior to registration. The credits will not count towards graduation, but if they pass with a C or better, they will be allowed to accelerate in the next school year once the transcripts are received from the college they attended.
