Language Arts: This week, we will begin reading in our new Storyworks Magazine. We will start with the Big Read; How to Save a Baby Rhino. Students will identify problems and solutions to better understand the nonfiction text. The Paired Text this week asks the question Which Is More Amazing? Spider-Man or Spiders?, and students will compare and contrast information from the two nonfiction texts.
Math: We begin Chapter 3 this week, subtraction with regrouping, up to 4-digit numbers. We will learn how to double-check our work using the relationship between addition and subtraction. Students will understand that addition is the "opposite" or inverse operation of subtraction. This means they can always use addition to check their answer to a subtraction problem.
Social Studies: We continue our unit on the 7 continents. Students will locate each continent on a world map, describe the basic geographical features, and compare the continents based on size, location, climate, and population. In our Scholastic News lesson, Celebrating our Differences, students will learn how author Christina Diaz Gonzalez highlights Hispanic heritage in her graphic novels, and learn more about Hispanic Heritage month.
Religion: We will continue our focus on showing love for others. God calls us to love everyone because we are all created in God's image.

Language Arts: This week, we will continue reading Freckle Juice by Judy Blume. As we read, students will focus on identifying and describing the characters’ traits using evidence from the text. We will discuss how characters’ thoughts, feelings, actions, and interactions with others help us understand who they are. Through reading, discussion, and vocabulary activities, students will continue building their comprehension skills while making connections to the characters and events in the story.
Math: We are wrapping up Chapter 2, with the test on Wednesday. Students will use addition properties, identify patterns in the addition table, and practice rounding to find the sums of 3- and 4-digit numbers.
Science: Students are learning how to make predictions about the weather by observing clouds and their changes. They will create a small book to record their notes, identify different types of clouds, and think about wind direction to figure out if a storm is heading their way.
Social Studies: We will begin our unit on the 7 continents. Students will locate each continent on a world map, describe the basic geographical features, and compare the continents based on size, location, climate, and population.
Religion: Our faith focus this week is showing love for others. We will explore how we show our love for God by loving others at home, at school, at church, and in our neighborhood.

Language Arts: This week, we began reading the novel Freckle Juice. Students were surprised to hear that the main character's allowance was 10 cents a week! That led us to discuss how to determine when a book was first published (1971). We will practice using dictionary skills to find the meaning of the new vocabulary words, and we will focus on summarizing events and describing characters as we read the rest of the book.
Math: We are exploring how we use Properties of Addition to solve problems. We will review adding 3 digit numbers, then move on to adding 4 digit numbers next.
Religion: In Chapter 2, we are exploring how the sacraments of Christian Initiation - Baptism, Eucharist, and Reconciliation -welcome people into Christian Life.
Science: In our Stormy Skies unit, students are identifying different types of clouds, and how they help us make predictions about the weather.
There is no written homework tonight, just study for the Spelling Test. If you are available, I will see you at Curriculum Night between 6:00 and 7:00.

Math ~ Page 91-92 (I let the students know that if there are ever problems on their homework that they do not understand, they can skip those problems and I will help them in the morning.)
