A team Google classroom is used to post important team updates and meet information. In order to stay informed student-athletes must sign up for the team Google classroom. Please email Coach Staluppi or Coach Drew to become part of the team Google classroom.
I will come prepared, arrive promptly, and attend all practices and assigned meets. Practice begins at 2:45pm during regular school days. Practice times for weekends and days when school is closed will be announced via Google Classroom.
I will notify Coach Staluppi or Coach Drew if I am not able to make a practice or meet for any reason. (You must have completed 6 practices in order to compete in a meet. It is the coaches discretion in deciding if you are prepared to compete in a meet)
I will arrange outside appointments and other activities around team responsibilities, practices, and meets.
I will hold myself in good academic standing. (If you cannot juggle your academic/work responsibilities with your extracurricular responsibility, then you must drop your sport.)
I will travel to and from all meets with the team via school transportation. (Exceptions would include other circumstances, for which I will obtain approval in advance from the athletic director.) Parents, please refer to: Transportation by Parent/Guardian. Student-Athlete Travel Release: Self-Transportation Form. Email Signed Forms to: mkelson@mhrd.org
I will actively participate in all track & field activities (i.e. fundraising, community outreach, pep rallies, team gatherings).
I will help set up, maintain, and put away equipment before and after all practices and meets.
I will make sure the locker rooms and practice areas are kept clean.
I will follow coaches' directions as to practice and meet participation (i.e. being coachable, team goals, training, number/type of events competing).
I will return my uniform at the completion of the season, otherwise I will have to pay a fine.
I will support and encourage all teammates during practices and meets.
I will present myself in a respectable manner, knowing that I am representing my school, my team, and my family.
*Failure to abide by these expectations could result in dismissal from the team*
You may be sore from workouts after practice; however, this doesn't mean you are injured. If you are injured, or think you are injured, you will follow the protocol below.
Protocol for injury/infectious diseases:
1. Notify the coaches - Report to practice, explain your injury/condition to the coaches, perform the team warm-up, then see the athletic trainer.
2. Notify the athletic trainer - You will sign the athletic trainer’s logbook when you arrive at the office. Before and after every practice you will report to the head coach what the athletic trainer said regarding your injury, the necessary treatment and recovery methods.
3. Notify the doctor - The athletic trainer may advise you to see a doctor for your injury, if so, you should make an appointment with a doctor to assess your injury and then report your status to the coaches. In the case your doctor issues you a medical note, you will need to obtain a doctors note stating you can return to practice.
Since we compete in cold and/or rainy conditions, it is important that we prepare for these meets with bad weather practices. To train and compete properly, you will need:
1. Several good pairs of running shoes (to prevent injury). ¼ spikes are used in running and jumping events. Throwing shoes are used for the shot put and discus events; cleats/spikes for the javelin event.
2. Stopwatch or HR Monitor with timer function.
3. A sweatshirt, sweat pants, shorts, t-shirt, hat, gloves, wet gear (i.e rain jacket), an extra pair of socks.
4. A gym bag to keep your belongings organized.
There are dress codes at meets set forth by the state. If these rules are not followed, an athlete or relay team could be disqualified.
1. Wear school issued uniforms only.
2. No jewelry or watches.
3. Spandex worn under the uniforms must be the same color for all athletes.
4. No sunglasses, unless they are prescription.
5. Only solid colored tee shirts may be worn under the uniform. If you are on a relay team, all tee shirts must be the same color. (School colors)
Uniforms will be issued before the first meet and are worn for meets only!
We want each athlete to do their best and focus on dropping time or adding feet to their jumps or throws. We will continue to focus on our personal bests. Our team goals are showing progress during practices and meets, and placing at division, county championship meets and earning the opportunity to compete in the state tournament.
In order to be successful, you must have a goal and a game plan that can help you achieve this goal. Newcomers to track and field might have modest goals such as clearing the opening height in the pole vault while more experienced track athletes might have a particular time, mark, distance or height in mind.
Whenever you are setting goals, it is very important that they are realistic within the time frame you expect to achieve them.
Constantly monitor your progress. Keep a journal of workouts and the specific training you are doing toward completing your goal. The coaches will set initial expectations and monitor your progress, but constant feedback from your stopwatch to you will direct a more efficient path for your individual success.
