This assignment is for incoming 9th grade students of the Academy for Math, Science, and Engineering at Morris Hills High School who will be attending the summer sessions in late July.

Read and annotate The Joy Luck Club by Amy Tan. Be sure to take special notice of heroic and cowardly behaviors, the use of symbols and figurative language, and Tan’s overall message about the world around us.

Preferred methods of annotating include using a Google Doc to track annotations or purchasing your own copy of the book to log your annotations on post-it notes. Another option is to utilize the free version of KAMI linked below alongside the digital text.
