Mt. Horeb High School:

SOAR/GEDO2

Mt. Horeb High School offers varying levels of support in grades 9-12 for regular education students at risk of not successfully completing their high school diploma in a timely manner, without additional help because of academic, motivational, AODA, and/or mental health issues.

S.O.A.R. (Student-Oriented Academic Resource): S.O.A.R. is a teacher-guided, small group study hall experience. Freshman are recommended by 8th grade teachers to initially be scheduled into S.O.A.R. study hall(s), but older students may continue or are added through a teacher-referral process that involves parental input and the school's problem-solving team. Freshman in S.O.A.R. study halls are required to complete additional study skill activities during their study hall time, and for that reason credit is earned by only freshman S.O.A.R. students who successfully complete those requirements.

S.O.A.R. monitor list: The S.O.A.R. monitor students are still followed academically, but do not attend S.O.A.R. study halls daily. These students have commonly attended S.O.A.R. study halls daily in the past, but are becoming more successful and independent in their academic progress, or are students that have needs that can be met on a drop-in basis. Additional check-ins and parent communication are used to encourage continued improvement.

GEDO2: The GEDO2 Program serves a very small number of students each year who are at least 17 years of age and have not successfully earned enough credits to meet the goal of timely graduation with their peers. This program allows authorized school districts to use the GED test battery administered at Madison College to measure proficiency in lieu of high school credit for students enrolled in an alternative education program. A student who passes the GED tests and completes the other requirements for graduation is entitled to the traditional Mount Horeb High School diploma. Specific state criteria must be met for students to be eligible for this alternative option for earning a diploma.
