The Full English: How a greasy feast came to define and divide a nation
When would we leave? When would we get back?
We leave Saturday, December 27, 2025. We arrive back on Saturday, January 3, 2026.
Note: there will not be school on Friday, January 2, 2026.
Would we miss any school?
Unfortunately for you, you will not miss any school.
What is the cost of the trip? What is included in this cost? What are the due dates for payment?
Please see the Payment Information section of this page for more information.
How many meals are covered?
On the plane, you will get 1 meal and 1 snack.
We are in our hotel for 6 nights:
6 breakfast daily @ hotel
3 dinners @ hotel
3 dinner voucher for $25.00 @ a variety of London restaurants
Sack lunch on parade day
Pizza dinner @ New Year's Eve party
What do we get to see and do while we're there?
So much! See the slideshow for more details.
What does "free time" mean in the itinerary?
This is time for you, your group members, and your chaperone to explore the sites in London. You are expected to travel as a chaperone group, but you are welcome to explore away from the entire large group. Most small groups prefer to team up with a few other small group and travel as a larger unit.
How does travel insurance work?
There is an extensive insurance section in our tour agreement; unfortunately, we became very acquainted with this section when the COVID pandemic canceled plans for us in 2020-2021.
Supplemental private insurance may be purchased by interested families.
How do chaperones work? What do they have to do?
Chaperones do the same stuff as the rest of the group, and they are in charge of a group of students when we have free time.
We need a 1:4 ratio for chaperones to students. Chaperones must be at least 21 years of age for this trip.
Do chaperones and students pay the same price?
Everybody pays the same price for the trip.
What happens if me or another family member wants to go with the group but not be a chaperone?
There are two scenarios for this:
You make all your own accommodations, meet us there, join us when you can, buy your own tickets, etc.
You have the LNYDP people book you with our group for everything, but at a higher rate since you are technically not part of the "core group."
If my parent chaperones, do I have to be on the same bus as them?
You should work that out with them.
Where do we fly from? Where to we fly to? How long is the flight?
We depart from O'Hare International Airport in Chicago, IL. We arrive at Heathrow Airport in London, England. The flight is about 8 hours.
How do hotels work?
Students will be two or three to a room depending on the room. Chaperones will be two to a room.
What happens if I need to cancel?
There are certain deadlines where you can cancel and get some or all of your money back. Once things start getting booked (hotels, shows, etc.) that money starts to get spent and it gets more difficult.
What would make the directors need to cancel?
Well, COVID did the trick last time!
We need at least 100 band members to put together a solid parade performance. From a financial perspective, this trip becomes difficult to do if we don't have costs spread out across a large pool of participants, so 100 people also allows us to hit that sweet spot.
We are planning this trip based on a specific instrumentation and voicing for our ensembles; a disruption in that could potentially make our performances unfeasible and force us to cancel (ex. we booked the trip with four snare drummers committed but now they all opted not to go, at that point we can't march)
We will have more information on this as it becomes available.
What is the cost of the trip? What is included in this cost?
Our current best estimate is $4,300. This includes all airfare, all hotels, all bus transportation, all tourist admission fees, and about 2/3 of all meals.

How can I make a payment?
Please bring payment into the MS or HS office and put your payment in a specifically marked envelope:
Check (make a check out to Mt. Horeb High School, please put your participant's NAME and the word LONDON in the memo line)
Cash
Note: We are looking into a credit card option, we will let you know if that becomes available.
What are the due dates for payment?
Assuming we use the price of $4,300 from above, the price breakdown and payment deadlines are:
November 25, 2024
$200
February 10, 2025
$400
April 10, 2025
$400
June 3, 2025
$400
August 27 , 2025
$800
October 27, 2025
Remaining balance
Prices are +/- variations in airline, airport, government taxes/fees/surcharges.
The first payment of $200 is non-refundable under any circumstances.
(However, we will collect this first payment and hold it for five days to ensure that we have a large enough group to make the trip feasible. If we make the decision to finalize our contract, this payment will then head to London and will no longer be refundable.)
All other deposits are refundable until May 1, 2025
How will fundraising money be applied?
There are two ways we could do this:
We apply the total amount of money in the general fund divided by the total number of participants, which would lower everybody's payment.
We use the general fund to pay for entire groups of things (e.g. shipping of equipment, Broadway tickets, etc.).
Based on how things have been working so far, it would be easier to administer the second option above and it's the direction we're leaning as of now.
All the information listed here was used for our New York City Music Trip in June 2024; these are here to give you an idea of what kinds of things we might use for London.
Chaperones
We need chaperones for our trip! Chaperones pay the same price as students. Our school board requires a 4:1 chaperone-to-student ratio on these kinds of trips.
