Direct and indirect speech

•Direct speech = when you repeat the exact words the person used

–Obama said, “I am going to Bangkok today.”

•Indirect speech = when you report a person’s speech but not by repeating the exact words. (also called ‘reported speech’)

–Obama said that he was going to Bangkok that day.
