 Silence can create change!

That’s why every year LGBTQ+ students and allies at Glacial Drumlin School, along with hundreds of thousands of students across the world, take a vow of silence on a Friday in April.

Day of Silence is a student-led, national event organized in thousands of schools, bringing awareness to the silencing effects of anti-LGBTQ+ name-calling, bullying, discrimination, and harassment in schools.  Participating students take a vow of silence for the day in an effort to encourage schools and classmates to address the problem of anti-LGBTQ+ behaviors.  Additionally, GDS GSA students want to support everyone within our school community, recognizing that bullying, harassment, and discrimination impacts all minority groups.

Quick Day of Silence tips for educators.

Participating at School:

As in years past, the GDS GSA will be organizing the 2023 GDS Day of Silence.  Participation in the Day of Silence is open to all GDS students.  To participate, students can take a vow of silence for the day to bring greater awareness to the silencing effects of anti-LGBTQ+ bullying and harassment.  You can also print and carry this palm card to show classmates that ask about your silence.

Participating students are encouraged to bring a dry erase marker to class in order to complete class work on dry erase boards or to communicate as needed.  Day of Silence should not be used as a tactic for students to get out of school work or not participate.

Participating at Home:

Below is a menu board of activity ideas to spread the word and engage online and at home to support LGBTQIA+ friends, family, and individuals.  Check out the menu of activities below, and feel share the link to this page with anyone you know who might be interested!
