Welcome to Algebra 1. I am really looking forward to teaching you this you and to getting to know you as a person. If you focus on attitude, effort and enthusiasm, you are going to have a great year. I am available for help whenever you need it. Best of luck this year.
Course Description: This course is for students who have mastered all elementary math concepts. The course will encourage students to extend, derive, and apply concepts learned in previous math class to a more complex way of thinking. New concepts include linear inequalities and equations, factoring, polynomials, systems of equations and inequalities, and statistics,
Instruction Methods and Philosophy: Students will be challenged through assignment, projects, and exams in order to increase their understanding of this subject matter. In the classroom students will experience lectures, class wide discussions, individual assignments, group collaboration, and homework. Students will be assessed trough tests, quizzes, projects, homework, midterm and a final.
Course Goals:
· Enhance the student’s ability to communicate, understand and read using mathematical concepts and vocabulary
· To apply algebraic concepts to “real-world” situations.
· Maximize the student’s preparation for more complex mathematic thinking and calculations
· Advance student’s understanding through technology as a visual “hands-on” learning tool
Expectations:
· Students will come to class on time and prepared, notebook, calculator, and writing utensils
· Students will participate in all class discussions, reading, and writing
· Students will be respectful at all times, to classmates, the teacher, and classroom supplies.
Homework: Homework will be given 2 times per week and submitted via Canvas.
Quizzes: Will be given every Friday.
Extra Help: Available whenever you need help.
Electronics: Are allowed at appropriate times. Otherwise, put on table in front of classroom.
