A note to families: Summer Reading is a great way to maintain and improve reading skills, but it's also about having fun!
When children self-select books, they are more likely to finish them and want to read more. If your child picks something that's too difficult for them read alone, try reading it with them or to them. You're never too old to be read to (audiobooks rule!) and even when listening to someone else read, children are building their own reading and comprehension skills. On the other hand, if your child chooses something that seems too easy for them, that's OK too! They are having fun, building their confidence as a reader, and feeling the joy of revisiting a favorite story.
