Why Participate?
Program requirements include a strong curiosity about the subject students plan to study, a willingness to work hard, and proper preparation through previous curriculum (prerequisite courses). An accelerated curriculum can prepare students for AP and Dual Enrollment courses in high school. Through college-level AP or Dual Enrollment courses, you enter a universe of knowledge that might otherwise remain unexplored in high school. Through AP Exams, students have the opportunity to earn credit or advanced standing at most of the nation's colleges and universities. Here are just a few reasons to sign up:

Broaden Your Intellectual Horizons
Explore the world from a variety of perspectives. Study subjects in greater depth and detail. Assume the responsibility of reasoning, analyzing, and understanding for yourself. In the largest study ever of the impact of AP on college success, which looked at 222,289 students from all backgrounds attending a wide range of Texas universities, the researchers said they found "strong evidence of benefits to students who participate in both AP courses and exams in terms of higher GPAs, credit hours earned and four-year graduation rates” (Washington Post, 2007).
*Students who do not participate in Middle School will still have opportunities to accelerate in high school through Dual Enrollment and Advance Placement courses.
Criteria
Students who meet specific criteria will have an opportunity to take high school Algebra I and/or Physical Science in the 8th grade.
Algebra One
1. Yearly average of 90 or better in Mathematics for both 6th and 7th grade
2. Recommendation by MMS Teacher Recommendation Committee.
3. 7th Grade Math EOG (Milestones) scale score of 552 or higher (upper achievement level of 3 or 4).
4. Completed placement exam
Physical Science
All of the above with the exception of number 3.
