The Sherlock Holmes Collection | Tim Johnson, Curator
Northwest Architectural Archives | Cheryll Fong, Curator
The Sherlock Holmes Collections at the University of Minnesota Library constitute the world’s largest gathering of material related to Sherlock Holmes and his creator Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. The Collections consist of over 60,000 items including books, journals, and a wide variety of other forms through which the transformation of the Holmes character from the printed page to a cultural icon can be traced.
The Northwest Architectural Archives is the repository for the records of architects, engineers, contractors, landscape architects, interior designers, and local professional societies from the Midwest region. This collection was established in 1970 out of a grassroots movement to preserve and restore historical buildings. These records contain drawings of all kinds, specifications, job files, trade catalogs, research, slides, and photographs.
Richard Lancelyn Green's death inspired the December 2004 New Yorker article Mysterious Circumstances by David Grann.
Lancelyn Green's bizarre death later inspired a novel that deals with a fictional Holmes expert who dies in exactly the same manner as Lancelyn Green. The Sherlockian (2010) by Graham Moore features a Holmes expert and a missing Doyle manuscript. (Find via MnLink)
