PSAT/SAT scores can be used in lieu of the Accuplacer. In fact, most students place higher with PSAT/SAT scores.

If you haven't taken the PSAT/SATs yet and you are interested in taking an Accuplacer required course, here's a few things to remember and one new change:

• The Accuplacer is not required to enroll in many CCRI courses.  

• 3 ways to find out if a course requires the Accuplacer: Met Picks list, CCRI Course Catalog, or ask Anne. 

• Most students choose classes where they do not need to take the Accuplacer as the test can be difficult and students need to study for it using the CCRI Study Packet

• The Accuplacer test used to be free, but it now costs $30 for the first time and every time.

Phase 1: Schedule Your Accuplacer Test

Appointments are scheduled online and require your CCRI ID number, username (CCRI Account Username Lookup), and password.

• New Students: If you do not have a CCRI ID#, submit an online application via the Early College Application Portal.

• How to Book: Use the Online Scheduling Portal or email accuplacer@ccri.edu (include your full name, CCRI ID#, date of birth, and phone number).

• Chemistry Placement: If you plan to take a chemistry course, request the Chemistry Placement test using these same steps.

• Accommodations: Contact your Met special educator to coordinate with the CCRI Office of Disability Services (DAS) before scheduling.

Phase 2: Choose Your Testing Format

Both options require a valid photo ID (Met ID or driver's license), but in-person testing is strongly recommended.

• In-Person (Recommended): Arrive at the testing center at least 10 minutes early. Late arrivals are not permitted.

• Remote: Requires a computer with a webcam and microphone (cell phones are not supported). An automated AI proctor will monitor your session.

Phase 3: Prepare & Take the Test

• Time Commitment: Plan for 2–3 hours, similar to taking the SAT.

• Preparation: Use official study guides and practice test materials beforehand. Higher placement scores unlock advanced courses and save money on introductory classes.

• Retakes: Retaking sections may incur a fee. If retaking the exam, complete only the specific section you wish to improve (e.g., math only).

Phase 4: Complete Post-Test Tasks

• Ignore Transcript Request: Your confirmation email may instruct you to send high school transcripts. Per Post-Met Advisor Patty Bamford, this is not required to take the Accuplacer.

• Send Your Results: Email your completed test results directly to Anne (anne.lavaud@metmail.org) so she can assist with course registration.
