The Methacton Elementary art curriculum helps students experience art as a form of self-expression while engaging students in experiential learning, which is the process for making meaning directly from the learning experience. This process encourages students to enhance and foster their artist skills while developing critical thinking skills, communication skills, problem solving skills, and their creativity. Students create and develop their understanding of art from different cultures, artists, and art styles while exploring different art forms and media. Lessons incorporate mathematics, geography, social students, and science.
Include but not limited to...

ELEMENTS OF ART: line, shape, color, form, value, space & texture
MEET THE MASTERS: Explore art through the master artists and styles throughout time
ART ACROSS THE WORLD: Learning about cultures and art styles found from country to country, around our world
MERGING TECHNIQUE AND CREATIVITY: Enhance fine motor skills, increase awareness of techniques, and fostering uniqueness of each student
RESPONDING TO ART: Connecting to art through self reflection, sketchbooks, class discussion and presentations
Lessons are in accordance to National Core Art Standards
Creating - Performing/Presenting/Producing - Responding - ConnectingIn the art room we have a need for many things you may have laying around the house. Please feel free to send these items to school with your child as you collect them. There is a box for art room donations right outside my door where they can be dropped off. It can take years to build up enough of the items to utilize but rest assured they will be given a good home! Thank you in advance!
MAGAZINES! (school appropriate)
Paper Towel Tubes or Wrapping Paper Rolls (no toilet paper rolls - thanks!)
Assemblage items (buttons, old puzzles, small odds & ends)
If you have questions as to whether or not we can use something, please feel free to email!
Make one from Mom's or older sibling's shirt. No long hanging sleeves or tremendously over-sized shirts in order to avoid dragging paint onto artwork.
Students should be able to get smock on and off independently.
Name clearly write on front of smock.
Please be aware...that smocks only cover their top half and shoes may end up with paint on them. Also, most smock shirts are not waterproof so dress for a mess even with a smock.
What I call Table Talk: We encounter art on a daily basis, we can't help it, it surrounds us. I encourage artful conversations at home to help our students become more aware of the art that surrounds them everyday and to share their experiences in the Worcester Art Studio. I welcome and adore any photos of students interacting or creating art on their own time. 💗
